“I visited the Radha Gopinath Ji Temple in Jaipur during the evening and attended the aarti. The temple is small but very beautiful and peaceful. I got down from the low-floor bus at Chandpole and walked around 1 km (about 15 minutes) through the narrow streets to reach the temple. The surroundings have small local shops, adding to the old-city charm. The idol of Radha Gopinath Ji was originally brought from Vrindavan to Jaipur by devotees during the Mughal period to protect it from destruction, and later it was given patronage by the Jaipur royal family. Radha Gopinath Ji is one of the revered Thakurs of Vrindavan. Since the lanes are very narrow and there is no parking, it’s best to avoid bringing a car—walking from Chandpole or taking an e-rickshaw is a better option. The original deity (Vigraha) of Radha–Gopinath Ji was brought from Vrindavan to Jaipur. It is believed that the original deity was crafted by Vajranabha, the grandson of Lord Krishna. “Review of Shri Gopinath Ji Temple, Jaipur Shri Gopinath Ji Temple in Jaipur is a beautiful and peaceful temple with an interesting history behind it. As per local stories, sometime in the 1900s, an Englishman visited this place and questioned whether the deity (Thakur Ji) was truly divine. To test it, he offered his watch, which worked on pulse movements, and said that if the god was alive, the watch should start working when placed on Him. Surprisingly, when the watch was put on Thakur Ji, it started ticking again, leaving everyone amazed. That incident became the origin story of this temple, and since then, the tradition of the deity wearing a watch has continued.
