We’re excited to announce that Salt Lines, by artist duo Hylozoic/Desires’ (Himali Singh Soin & David Soin Tappeser), will open at Jaipur Centre for Art on July 3rd until August 9th 2026. Touring from London’s Somerset House in London, once the British Empire’s tax office, and Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai, which hosted the Empire’s economic botany collection, Salt Lines accumulates another uncanny resonance in Jaipur: Mayalee, the courtesan protagonist of the exhibition’s central video work, The Hedge of Halomancy, was from Sambhar and might even have wandered these very halls in the past. Then as now, sitar and bansuri - alongside the occasional stray note of a colonial brass instrument - would have filled the air. Salt Lines traverses textile, video, and photography at the threshold of historical records and speculative imaginings to excavate and penetrate the porosity of ‘The Great Hedge of India’.
