And that is exactly what the 161st edition of Jaipur Reads felt like. We showed up with a soft mat laid on the grass, a paperback in hand, with cool breeze through the trees and it indeed was the most perfect refreshment after a week spent looking at screens far more than trees.

For a moment it almost felt like a lazy morning from a 19th-century Jane Austen novel. This was my first Central Park session, and I found myself trying to recall the last time I’d laid out a mat on the grass just to read. The weather played its part perfectly, I realised gone is the summer and with the last of the monsoon showers soaking the city, everyone is quietly getting ready for a cool winter ahead, the golden stretch right before the chill, the kind of morning that makes you question whether to stay in bed or pull yourself outdoors.
